Children's Dentistry
Healthy growing smiles start with positive early care
Children’s dentistry is designed to support healthy development, build positive habits early, and make dental visits feel comfortable from the start. At Ortega Cottage Dentistry, we focus on prevention, education, and a calm experience that helps children feel at ease.

What we do
Gentle dental care that supports healthy long-term growth
Children’s dentistry focuses on protecting developing teeth, monitoring growth, and helping children build a healthy relationship with dental care from an early age. Routine visits allow us to track oral development, address small concerns early, and guide both children and parents through the habits that support a healthier smile.
Our team will start with a gentle cleaning followed by a thorough assessment of your child and give recommendations based on each child’s diet and needs. Most recommendations include applying sealants to adult molars and applying topical Fluoride to help strengthen enamel and fight tooth decay.

Why it matters
Healthy habits start earlier than most people think
Children’s dentistry does more than check for cavities. It helps protect developing teeth, guides healthy habits, and gives parents the support they need to stay ahead of preventable issues.
01
Helps prevent cavities early
Baby teeth may be temporary, but they still play an important role in a child’s health and development. Early preventive care helps reduce the risk of decay and protects the space needed for permanent teeth.
02
Monitors growth and development
As children grow, their teeth, bite, and jaw develop quickly. Regular visits help us monitor those changes and identify concerns before they become more complicated.
03
Builds comfort with dental visits
Positive early experiences can shape how a child feels about the dentist for years to come. Gentle, encouraging care helps make future visits easier and less stressful.
04
Supports better habits at home
Children and parents both benefit from guidance on brushing, flossing, diet, and daily oral care. Ongoing education helps build routines that protect growing smiles.
05
Catches small concerns before they grow
Whether it’s early decay, crowding, or changes in oral development, routine visits help identify concerns while they are still easier to manage.

Review and guidance
We explain what we saw, answer questions, and provide recommendations for home care and future visits.
When should my child first see a dentist?
Children should typically visit the dentist by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth coming in.
How often should my child go to the dentist?
Most children benefit from routine visits every six months, though some may need to be seen more often depending on their oral health.
Are baby teeth really that important?
Yes. Baby teeth help with eating, speaking, and guiding permanent teeth into place, so keeping them healthy matters.
What if my child is nervous about the dentist?
That’s common. We take a gentle, encouraging approach that helps children feel more comfortable and supported during the visit.
Do children need X-rays?
Sometimes. X-rays are only recommended when needed to monitor growth, check for hidden concerns, or guide treatment decisions.
What are sealants, and does my child need them?
Sealants are protective coatings placed on certain teeth to help prevent cavities. They are often recommended for children once permanent molars come in.
How can I help prevent cavities at home?
Brushing twice daily, flossing, limiting sugary snacks and drinks, and keeping up with regular dental visits all help reduce cavity risk.
How much does children's dentistry cost?
Routine pediatric exams and cleanings typically range from $100–$350 per visit. Sealants run approximately $30–$60 per tooth; fluoride treatments are usually $20–$50. Most family dental insurance plans cover pediatric preventive care in full. We'll review your child's coverage before any treatment.
