The Treatment

Restorative care, precisely placed.

A dental crown is a porcelain cap cemented over a tooth that is significantly decayed, fractured, or at high risk of breaking. It restores the tooth's full shape, function, and appearance, and once placed, cannot be removed.

A bridge takes the same principle one step further. It replaces a missing tooth by anchoring a false tooth between two crowns fitted over the healthy teeth on either side, literally bridging the gap. Like crowns, bridges are fixed restorations.

Crowns have a wide range of uses beyond cosmetics: protecting a root canal treated tooth, supporting a tooth with a large filling, restoring a dental implant, and anchoring a bridge. At Ortega Cottage Dentistry, Dr. Kim determines the most conservative approach for each case, preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible while restoring what's been lost.
Why Patients Choose

The reliable way to protect what remains.

For patients in San Juan Capistrano dealing with damaged, decayed, or missing teeth, crowns and bridges offer a proven, permanent solution that restores confidence and function in equal measure.
01

Protects vulnerable teeth

A crown seals and strengthens a tooth that would otherwise fracture, stopping further damage before it starts.
02

Replaces missing teeth without implants

A bridge is a fixed, non-removable alternative to an implant, ideal when adjacent teeth already need crowns.
03

Restores full function

Eat, speak, and smile normally. Crowns and bridges are designed to function exactly like natural teeth.
04

Long-lasting with proper care

Treat them like your natural teeth, brush, floss, and maintain regular checkups, and they'll last for years.
A Conversation, Not a Quiz

Are crowns or bridges right for you?

Crowns are recommended when a tooth is too damaged for a filling but still worth preserving. Bridges are considered when one or more teeth are missing and the surrounding teeth are healthy enough to serve as anchors, or already need crowns themselves.

The best answer comes from a clinical exam, not a checklist. Dr. Kim will assess your tooth structure, bite, and long-term oral health before recommending any restoration.

What to expect

Most crowns and bridges are completed in two visits. Dr. Kim works carefully at each stage to ensure the final restoration fits your bite and blends with your natural teeth.
01
Examination
Dr. Kim assesses the damaged tooth, surrounding teeth, and bite to determine whether a crown, bridge, or alternative is the most appropriate restoration.
02
Preparation
The tooth is shaped to accommodate the crown. Impressions are taken and sent to the lab. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth in the interim.
03
Lab Fabrication
Your custom porcelain crown or bridge is crafted to match your natural tooth color, shape, and bite, typically taking one to two weeks.
04
Placement
The temporary is removed, and your permanent restoration is checked for fit, bite, and appearance before being cemented into place.
05
Long-Term Care
Brush and floss as normal, paying particular attention to the gum line around crowns. Return for regular checkups to monitor the restoration over time.
